The following guidelines are designed to make everyone’s experience at 4-H events satisfying to all attending. This means that all participants, members, volunteers, 4-H Youth Development Program staff, leaders and adults shall adhere to the core values of the Oregon State University 4-H Youth Development Program, respect the individual rights, safety, and property of others. The following dress code was developed to prevent participants from becoming offended or uncomfortable during 4-H events. If you choose to dress inappropriately, you will be asked to change, or be required to leave until dress code is followed. By planning you will save yourself the inconvenience of changing your attire to ensure that you contribute to a pleasant atmosphere.

Please be advised that the following dress code will be enforced for both male and female individuals.

• Clothing:
• All clothing shall be neat, clean, acceptable in repair and appearance, and shall be worn within the the bounds of decency and good taste as appropriate for 4-H events.
• Articles of clothing which display profanity, products, or slogans which promote tobacco, alcohol, drugs, sex or are in any other way distracting, are prohibited.
• Excessively baggy or tight clothing, and clothing which advertises gang symbols or affiliation is prohibited.
• Items of clothing which expose bare midriffs, bare chests, undergarments, or that are transparent (see-through) are prohibitied. No tank tops are permitted. Please be advised that spaghetti straps, shirts which expose a bare back, halter tops, and tube tops are prohibited.
• Swimming (For all water recreation): Swimsuits for men/boys: swim trunks only (no shorts, cut-off pants, or Speedos).
• Swimsuits for women/girls: One-piece suits recommended, however, two-piece suits are allowed as long as they are modestly cut. No string, thong or crochet suits will be allowed. Swimsuits may only be worn while in the swimming pool area.
• Shoes: No open toed shoes permitted. All people on the range are required to have closed toed shoes at all times.

Safety

Because of the nature of our sport a high degree of seriousness and awareness will be required of each member on the range. An understanding of the range commands and an immediate response to those commands will be necessary.

• There will be no running or ‘horseplay’ on the range. (We will provide plenty of opportunity for horseplay at more appropriate times).
• Shooters will wear proper safety equipment while shooting.
• Members will be respectful of leaders and fellow members at all times, listening for and obeying all range commands when they are given. Remember, a cease-fire can be given by any person on the range. All commands need to be heard.
• Any jewelry (such as earrings, pins, loose neck chains, etc.), high-heels and extremely loose fitting clothing will not be worn during shooting. Long hair should be pulled back off of the face out of the path of the bowstring as it is released.
• Safe handling of shooting equipment is expected of members at all times both on and off the range.
• If your bow has been in the family for many generations or makes strange noises when drawn (make sure it is the bow and not your child making the strange noise) – an inspection may be due. Yew wood only lasts so long. If the bow makes strange noises during the draw, you may need updated equipment. If your child makes strange noises during the draw, you may need to reduce the draw poundage. Please let us safety inspect all archery gear prior to use on the range.

Safety is a top priority for our club. We urge all members and their parents or other family members to help us monitor safety. If you see an unsafe condition or activity please notify us immediately. We are open to ideas on the topic as well. Your input is always welcome.

Behaviour

Above all else, the purpose of this club will be to develop in our youth Character, Respect, and Proper Motivation. With these assets anything can be achieved, archery skills included. It is our desire to help families equip their sons and daughters for life. Archery is a great teacher of patience, self-discipline, perseverance, and attention to detail. It is also the perfect family sport and we would encourage all members of the family to get involved.

• Our boys will conduct themselves as young gentlemen and behave in a manner that will honor themselves, their family and their Club and be particularly respectful of the young ladies present.
• Our girls will conduct themselves as young ladies and behave in a manner that will honor themselves, their family and their Club and will abstain from behavior and dress that would be distracting to other Club members.
• Each member will treat leaders and fellow members politely and respect will be shown at all times for authority.
• Participants will not use tobacco, alcohol or drugs (except those directed by a doctor). Criminal law violations (including, without limitations, shoplifting, theft, drug possession, under-age tobacco use or under-aged drinking) will be grounds for immediate dismissal from the Club.
• Members will at all times be courteous, clean and display good manners. There is no room for negative attitudes on the range. There will be a zero tolerance policy regarding swearing, ridicule, and inappropriate topics of discussion.
• If a member has a complaint he or she must also present a solution. If a leader is caught complaining without solution (griping), that leaders hat will be pinned to a target at 20 yards and, well, you know.

Parental involvement is key in this area. If there are any offending behaviors observed, please let us know immediately, if possible, so that the situation can be dealt with on the spot in an appropriate manner.

Dedication

When you join a club, you are entering into an agreement with like-minded people with a common interest. It is a commitment. We ask that members and parents take this commitment very seriously. Many people involved with this Club make large sacrifices and dedicate a good portion of their lives to making the Club a success. We ask the same of our members. Because of the safety issues involved with archery, consistent attendances and dedication is a must.

• A parent (or guardian) must be present at all local shooting meets, unless arrangements have been made. A consistent pattern of non-attendance by parents (or guardians) is not acceptable. A senior capable of transporting himself to and from meets would be one exception to this rule.
• Members are expected to attend scheduled meetings and events and arrive on time. If you are going to miss a meeting, please notify us in advance.
• If we are not notified of non-attendance this will be considered an unexcused absence. Members are allowed no more than two (2) unexcused absences per year/season.
• Consistent absence is not acceptable. Due to safety concerns and fairness to those who may be on our waiting list, regular attendance to scheduled meetings and events will be required to maintain Club membership.
• All members are expected to provide and maintain their own equipment. Trial equipment (limited amount available) may be used on a temporary basis. We will be happy to help with selection, fit and recommendations.
• All members will be required to attend fundraising events. On a per club member basis, 50% of the funds raised will be divided and placed into a personal account for each member attending the fundraiser. The remaining 50% will go to the Club’s General Fund. Member monies can be used to purchase archery related needs (arrows, bows, quivers, etc). Upon leaving the club, any funds in a members account will be transferred into the Club’s General Fund.

We hope that the above Code of Conduct gives you a good idea of the motivation behind our Club staff. With parental support and a little bit of time, the Members of the Snowy Butte Archery Club will be ready to meet all of life’s challenges head on. And as a Club, they will experience a refreshing atmosphere that will truly allow them to be themselves at their best. We know life is busy, but an investment in our youth today will greatly benefit our world tomorrow.

Consequences

Club Members will always be given the opportunity to explain themselves. Offenses are very serious and rules will be enforced.

• If the Dress Code is violated, the member will be sent home to change.
• When a member blatantly disregards the above code for the first time, a warning will be issued. The matter will be discussed with the parents (or guardians) of the member to assure that all parties understand the seriousness of the matter and to ensure that the member understands the offense and the consequences of further misconduct.
• If a second incident occurs on the same day, the member will be dismissed for the day or the event.
• A third offence within the year/season will be grounds for immediate and permanent dismissal from the club.
